U Comment I follow
If you have looked into link building, you have probably seen at least a little information on follow and nofollow links. These two tags tell google whether to follow the link or not. In some ways, it is a good thing to not let information from the link to be associated with your website, but for blogs, nofollow can be very bad.
Though it shouldn’t affect whether a person posts a comment or not, too often a person will check to see if the site uses nofollow before posting a comment. If the site does, the person will go elsewhere. This discourages discussions on blogs that could be beneficial to both the blog owner and the commenter.
You will find on JasisDesigns.Com that I do not use nofollow tags on comments. The only time you will ever see a nofollow is if there is a link that leads to another site that does use nofollow. Basically tit-for-tat. Hopefully with enough of us site owners using follow, and nofollow reciprocity, that the search engines will begin to ignore those tags and let all links be worthy of following.

Yes this is a very good trend and thanks for supporting it, the only hard part in this is finding out the spam comments from the legit ones, which gives the blog owners a pretty hard time if they don’t have a proper plan for it.
Thanks,
Craig.
Thanks Craig,
So far I don’t have much problems with that. I know probably 99% of the comments will be others for gaining links for their sites, but I feel as long as the person leaves a decent comment and doesn’t just post “I like your post” etc, then I let it through. Some posts are very obvious spam. They are basically a bunch of jibberish with a link that doesn’t even work. Those are email harvesters and probably the only way to stop them on the comments is by using captcha.

One of the more outstanding ideas someone has come up with – really in my eyes, when you have visitors writing well thought, and knowledgeable responses to articles, they too deserve some credibility – thanks!
Hi Firefly,
That is my feelings too, which is why I was so glad to find information over it and plugins that work for wordpress to change links to follow. It does add a bit of spam postings, but thats easily taken care of through moderation of comments.
Meridith
I think, doFollow is good idea …
Now my blog is doFollow … thnks
I agree 100%. You inspired me to change my nofollow links into follow links. I use a wordpress plugin called “No Follow Case by Case”
That is an outstanding article that is very well written. I enjoyed the little history piece for u comment i follow as well.
Naruto and Home Business,
It’s great to hear that I could help on encouraging others to start using dofollow. Too many have gotten greedy with their link juice which makes it harder to find good quality links.
Meridith
Thank you Web Design Tips
Meridith
I am surfing around researching on whether to make my blog do follow.
I highly recommend going do-follow with your blog. Though you do have to go through a bit of spam, it will help generate more incoming links along with the added traffic you will gain, all of which will help you in your SERPs. Being do-follow also helps encourage interaction between you and your visitors. That alone is enough to help with the popularity of your site.
Meridith
I agreed that every blog must have do follow, which will help you in your SERPs
I agree that having nofollow on your blog can be harmful. I don’t mind enabling follow as long as my readers give me SOME kind of juicy keyword. Say for example SEO, or web design tips for your website.
Welcome to the dofollow Community.
Dofollow helps generating incoming links and encourages interaction.
I hope google doesn’t ignores the dofollow links on dofollow blogs.
Title,
Yes, dofollow can have a domino affect on SERPs. Allowing dofollow comments which encourages comments, which brings in more traffic. The comments give frequently updated content and that added with the traffic rates helps in the SERPs.
Meridith
Black Jack,
It is not exactly harmful, but without dofollow it takes alot more work to get the results that going dofollow can give. The downside is the spam comments, but that is easily taken care of with moderation of comments. With wordpress you can see the ip’s when moderating comments which is great for finding frequently used ips for spam. If I notice an ip being used several times, I just add it to my ip block list and no longer have to mess with those spam comments. What I find funny with some spam comments is the ones that the person has added theirselves the nofollow attribute to their links. They are obviously trying to increase their backlinks, yet they are doing all that work for nothing since they are manually adding nofollow.
Meridith
Aditya,
Hopefully Google will quit using using the nofollow attribute all together. I can understand a bit on wanting to allow webmasters more control over their sites and outgoing links from their sites, but on the other hand, it only takes a moment to delete a comment or link.
Meridith
I think you had a great choice of making your blog do follow because you can help your visitors who leave comment on your website to receive traffic. Besides, nice idea for give and take.right?
I made my blog dofollow to recently,i also added keywordluv and commentluv plugins.Indeed number of spam comments raised but Askimet is doing a pretty good job,so overall is ok i guess.
We are proudly part of the movement to follow author links within their posts.
Its hard for me to find dofollow blog to comment on but since I read more info ablog dofollow I actually earn many backlinks.
I think there should be a combination of do follow plus moderation, plus max comments. Links are useless if there are to many outgoing.
I find that DoFollow is a very useful attribute, considering that Askimet takes care of the spam problem for me 99% of the time.
thanks for sharing the tips. i believe it will increase your traffic tremendously
Hi, I am looking for more information about this, can you please help me out? Thanks.
Thank you everyone for leaving comments. I have been busy as ever lately, so sorry for the delay in getting your comments approved.
Congrats to all of you who have just recently changed your blogs to do follow. You have made a great choice!
Meridith
Hi,
I would be happy to help you with getting more information. I am going to also send you an email and I look forward to hearing back from you.
Meridith
I think you really love your visitors because you let them receive backlinks. I appreciate that. Thanks!
this is great way to reward the visitors by giving them a backlinks this way you have increased so much good readership for your blog
Excellent post and good to see someone else using dofollow links. It encourages comments!
Thank you. Surprisingly there isn’t a lot of us that do. Though wordpress is great for SEO and SEM itself, most webmasters don’t know that the defaults are horrible. If you know php you can do the adjustments yourself, but if not, there are some really wonderful pluggins to add to your wordpress to make it do its own SEO and SEM. Of course for a business you will still want to do other SEM but for personal sites, it does everything you need.
Meridith
Amen! Thank you for the recognition of DoFollow and being one of the supporters out there.
I don’t believe that the use of NoFollow has discouraged spammers in the least.
Good for you!!!!
Great to find someone else ‘doing the web’ the way it’s meant to be before Google messed it up with the whole ‘no-follow’ thing… and I don’t even have a blog!! (I happen to prefer reading them rather than maintaining one)
regards
Tom
I hope that DoFollow has worked out for you as it worked out for us for a time. We started getting a bit too many spammers though and shut it off =(
People who leave comments sincerely should be rewarded for their time and all. Its a win- win situation.
its amazing, a lot of people are already a part of this “u comment i follow” movement. im glad i am!
sincerely,
Martin
I’m thinking your idea is really great. Change from nofollow to dofollow you will be got more comment and traffic.
I love dofollow blogs and love you
Thanks for sharing!
Akismet works great for catching spam. Every once in awhile, a comment will either get marked as spam or vise versa, but otherwise it catches a huge amount. I was tempted to quit doing the dofollow before I tried akismet. I have definately changed my mind!
I also support dofollow movement. I think that people who leave a comment on your blog should also benefit from it. If their comment is quality why not give them a backlink…
I agree with Liz, you get out what you put in. And as long as your contributing to the discussion why shouldn’t you be acknowledged. I suppose the principle above is cast aside by alot of spammers/auto-commenters who just don’t care. By the looks of it there is some effective technology for catching these spammers.
Yes Marc, and as long as the webmaster doesn’t mind moderating comments you don’t have to worry about sorting through a bunch of trash. I skim through the spam listing just in case something got flagged as spam, but that seldom happens. So I only have to go through the list that is considered acceptable comments and approve the quality comments and delete the others. With posting replys to the comments I can generally be done in less then 10 minutes depending on the number of comments waiting for my approval.
Meridith
Thats exactly how I feel snoring.
